Created back in 1988 by Father Greg Boyle, Homeboy Industries is a non-profit organization that is focused on helping the public and those that are trying to better their lives by leaving the gang community. Father Greg Boyle created the program in an attempt to give former gang members the opportunity to gain skills and find employment. Today, Homeboy Industries has grown to include several services such as tattoo removal, job training, legal services and mental services. The program’s farmers market, cafe, diner and merchandise all bring in a portion of profits that are then funneled back into the different programs and services they offer their members.
