Gas Light District Neighborhood

Bounded by 21st and 24th Street, Highland and Blanche, the Gas Light District neighborhood stands out for its cute streets, beautiful homes, and, of course, the real gas lamps for street lights.

Property taxes fund the lamps illuminating the streets in this section of Manhattan Beach. In recent years the lamps have come under a bit of fire for using energy inefficiently, but rather than removing the iconic decorations, the city chose to scale back their hours of operation.

If you like a neighborhood that is quaint and a touch historic, then pursuing a Gas Light District home for sale will be worth the effort. Many of its homes are older beach cottages. However, the recent wave of new construction sweeping through Manhattan Beach has spread into the Gas Light District community as well, which is giving way to newer, more modern architecture in some places.

Gas Light District Neighborhood Amenities

The Gas Light District is a family-friendly neighborhood and is just a short distance to the beach, two local parks and other amenities, another reason why the hunt for Gas Light District homes for sale can be so competitive. Live Oak Park is a relaxing, shaded area with play equipment, sports fields, a dog park, and a community center. Also close to the Gas Light District is Sand Dune Park with its 100-foot sand dune.

Generally kids from homes in the Gas Light District neighborhood attend Grand View Elementary, a California Distinguished School off Alma Ave. on 26th Street.

If you're looking for a home that's a short distance from downtown Manhattan Beach, the ocean, and some great, well-maintained parks in a community that affords you and your family more space and privacy than the Sand Section, for example, the Gas Light District might be a good place to start.
